Megyn Kelly has called it quits at Fox News after more than 12 years

Fox News’ leading female anchor is leaving Fox News for NBC and will be signing off on Friday. Twelve years ago, Megyn Kelly began her storied career at the conservative news network and since that day has become one of the leading female voices on Fox News, eventually ending up with her own late night political show.

Megyn Kelly will now have three roles on NBC. She will host a one-hour daytime program, an in-depth Sunday night news show and will take part in NBC’s special political programming. Kelly’s departure created a seismic rift in cable news. Megyn Kelly has become the second-most watched anchor, right below fellow Fox News rival Bill O’Reilly.

Megyn Kelly took center stage during the 2016 presidential election, starting a heated fight with President-elect Donald Trump and criticizing former Fox News head Roger Ailes for his personal behavior. Kelly will be making an unknown amount of money, causing many to assume it’s much more than what she was making at Fox. Kelly made her announcement via a Facebook post on Tuesday. 21st Century offered Megyn Kelly $20 million to continue after her contract expires.

Megyn Kelly made her announcement via a Facebook post on Tuesday. 20th Century Fox which owns Fox News offered Kelly $20 million to stay after her contract expires.

“While I will greatly miss my colleagues at Fox, I am delighted to be joining the NBC News family and taking on a new challenge.” Kelly has said in interviews.

NBC has scheduled the daytime program to air Monday through Friday but are not sure about a time slot.  Kelly’s show will be a mix of panel discussions, interviews and a mix of news.  NBC News will now have figure out how to fit Kelly’s show into a time when most NBC affiliates run syndicated programming.

Kelly’s NBC Sunday show would allow her to keep her foot in hard news. Kelly accepted the position at NBC News because it would allow her to spend more time with her three young children and not having to deal with the onslaught of political combat.

Kelly’s departure from Fox makes her one of the most sought after female journalists since Katie Couric left NBC. It’s unclear who will take her time-slot on Fox News as well as if this loss will hurt Fox News’ ratings.
